Reschio is a 1,500-hectare, family-owned estate in the rolling hills of Umbria, Italy, where over a thousand years of history meet refined contemporary living. At its heart lies Hotel Castello di Reschio, a 10th-century castle originally built on the border of Umbria and Tuscany as a papal defence fortress. Today, it has been transformed into an exquisite retreat with just 36 rooms and suites, and rustic Italian character. Scattered across the estate are beautifully restored farmhouses available for private stays, each crafted with meticulous attention to detail, everything in Reschio is designed by the estate’s own in-house studio. Beyond its walls, Reschio encompasses organic vineyards and olive groves, stables for horse riding, a flourishing creative program of art, design, and gastronomy, and a sense of place that makes every stay a true immersion into Italian heritage, nature, and elegance.

The four pillars of Reschio

  • Equestrian

Horses lie at the heart of Reschio, where purebred Spanish Andalusians are bred and trained in harmony with nature.

Guests can experience the artistry of dressage, take lessons with expert instructors, or ride across the estate’s wild Umbrian landscape

  • Architecture

Every project begins with the footprint of the original farmhouse.

Design at Reschio ensures beauty and joy in every detail, guided by Count Benedikt, a trained architect recognized as one of Architectural Digest’s top 100 architects

  • Hospitality

36 rooms at the Castello or a private farmhouse on the estate.

Dating back to 1050, this historical marvel is filled with stories of mystery and intrigue. Following years of careful transformation, it is now a unique and enthralling hotel

  • Farming

Reschio’s 1,500-hectare estate thrives on organic, regenerative agriculture, producing olives, grapes, grains, and honey.

Estate-grown ingredients feed the kitchens and vineyards, supporting a sustainable, biodiverse ecosystem that connects guests to the land

The Bolza family & Reschio

In 1984 Count Antonio Bolza and his wife discovered the overgrown ruins of Reschio, a neglected estate in Umbria, scattered with abandoned farmhouses and crowned by an ancient castle. Over the following years, Antonio sold his publishing company and invested entirely in restoring the estate. His son, Count Benedikt Bolza, trained as an architect in London, returned in 1999 and took leadership, reimagining the farmhouses as private homes and transforming the castle into a 36-room hotel. Today, Benedikt works alongside his wife, Donna Nencia, while Antonio and his wife remain on site. Under their stewardship, Reschio has become a haven of design, nature, and heritage, marrying conservation with luxury living
